WHAT'S A Cha-Am Hash LIKE? WATCH!
NEVER HASHED WITH US BEFORE? NEVER HASHED AT ALL?
Hashing with the Cha-Am Hash under invited co-administration of the Cha-Am Freedom Hash is, in spite of the name, an easygoing affair. The trails (shorter for walkers, longer for runners) are almost always in the countryside, through fields, jungles, hills, mountains, temples and more - and you can run, walk or both. It's not a competitive affair, it's fun.
The circles are not too short and not too long, with everyone gathering around to roast one another with beer (or non-alcoholic beverages, if you prefer) and the dinners are at local restaurants in and around Hua Hin where you can almost always find a wide varierty of Thai and foreign foods and beverages.
Run fees, listed above under the Misdirections, are very reasonable at ฿100 for the run for adult runners, and only another ฿100 for those who want to drink beer from the hash beermeister - which is usually a mix of Chang, Leo, MyBeer and a few others - as well as water, sodas and some snacks, which can include homemade Thai food :)
For juinor hashers, we only charge ฿50 and for new members (on your second run) it's free!
Never hashed before? It's a great way to see parts of the greater Hua Hin-Cha-Am area that you probably never would otherwise see, and to meet people from around the world who live in, and visit our area. You don't need to be a strong runner - in fact you don't even need to be a runner. If you don't have transportation, you can call Rubber Duck (per the Misdirections above) and he'll help you get there. Basically, don't worry, just come try it 👍
A FEW SHOTS FROM 2024 CHA-AM HASHES🏃♀️
GOT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHA-AM HASH?
Are the runS and DINNERS In Cha-AM? Mostly, No - Hua Hin!
While The Cha-am Hash was founded in Cha-am, and the runs can be out in the wilderness near Cha-am, most all of the members - and most all of the On Afters - are in or around Hua Hin. So, if you're in Hua Hin and worried that it'll be all the way in Cha-am, don't! Just come!
Do i need to be a member? No! Can I become a member? YES!
Don't take the hash too seriously, you'll ruin the fun! Just show up, pay the meager run fees (which go to pay for the beer and other details), and you'll quickly be a member - in fact, your second run as a member is free.
What if I'm not a strong runner? What if I want to run? Choose!
For those who haven't hashed before, there can be a concern that you'll either be too out of shape - or too competitive - for the event. It's true, we frown on overt competitiveness (e.g. shoving past people on the trail), but we have everything from spry, fast runners to tough, trail-hiking septuagenarians on sticks. Run, or walk at your own pace and you'll be fine - and don't worry about kit, gear, etc. Just show up.
Is the hash just like other running clubs? 100% lol NOT.
Most people discuss the drinking after (and sometimes at a stop on) the run aspect of hashing when noting the differences, but the drinking is entirely optional, and it's hardly what differentiates hashing from other running events. What really makes it different is the nature of the run.
On the Cha-am Hash, the run is always in the countryside, it's always green and fresh and natural (occasional dumps aside!), but what really sets hashing apart is the problem-solving aspect - there's not a set course like in most events. Instead, there's a trail... until there's not. Then it's up to you to find it again, which will continue throughout the hash.
Every event is a unique trail running (or walking) challenge that you'll only ever experience that one time, with that group - and the next run will be totally new again. Then you drink beer in a circle, berate one another in an orderly fashion and go eat and drink more together - if you want. If you don't want to do that part, you don't have to :)
Thank You,
The GM
